The Petrell Hall Centennial Committee is sponsoring a Summer Music and Dance Festival on August 2, 2008. The all-day fundraiser features music for dancing and listening by the FinnHall dance band, FriendsOnTheRange dance troupe and Brian and Sheralyn Barnes, a mandolin vocal duo playing a wide variety of musical styles for audiences of all ages. $8.00 admission fee for adults and teens; children 12 and under are admitted free for the day long event.

Dance your winter blues away and get ready for this summer’s FinnFest2008! The
International Institute in St. Paul will transform itself into a Finnish Hall for an evening with the Finn Hall
Band playing waltzes, polkas, tangos, and humpa to help raise money and awareness for the five-day FinnFest2008 festival, July 23-27, in Duluth.
Kisarit Dancers will perform a set as well as be available for on the spot dance lessons for all who want to learn or refresh their Finnish dancing style skills to use at FinnFest. Family style dancing will be featured throughout the evening.
Admission to the dance will be $5 for adults and children under 12 free. Sweet and savory Finnish treats, coffee, beer, fruit juices, and sodas will be available.
Free parking at the International Institute, located at 1694 Como Avenue, St. Paul, just east of Snelling and across the street from the State Fair grounds.

Beginning dance instruction from 7-8 pm with Ralph Tutilla and Ruth Sylte.
There will be a short program at 8pm with a possible appearance by St. Urho himself,
followed by music and dancing with Multe and Finn Hall.
It will be held at the Eagle's Club Main Hall (with another great wooden dance floor!)

annual Nordic ball. The Ball is held this year at the CSPS Sokol Hall, 383 Michigan St, St. Paul. It's located above the Glockenspiel

Finn Hall will play for a dance (Queen's Ball) at the Loon Lake community center for the Laskiainen celebration, an annual family event at Palo. In 2007, the celebration takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb 2-3-4.
Laskiainen is an annual Finnish sliding festival celebrating the ethnic heritage of customs, crafts, music, sports, marketplace, foods and of course sliding! A true family event.
There will be a queen's crowning ceremony at 7:00, followed by dancing at the Queen's Ball from 7:30 until 10:00.

"Homecomings: A Circle of Music"
Concert and Dance by Finn Hall
Finn Hall, a Finnish American music group from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, performs at the Ishpeming, Michigan Elks Club Lodge, on Saturday, February 10, in a "Homecoming" Concert (1:00-2:30) and Dance (3:00-5:00pm).
The event is sponsored in part by a grant from the national Finlandia Foundation and supported by the recently formed affiliate chapter in Ishpeming, the League of Finnish American Societies UP Chapter.
The public is cordially invited to attend. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 at door. The Ishpeming Elks Lodge is located at 597 Lakeshore Drive in Ishpeming, MI. For more information about this event, call 906-485-1971.
Finn Hall traveled to Finland in July 2006 for a performance and study tour. Funds from the national Finlandia Foundation supported the group's outreach to ancestral areas, including Ylihärmä, Vuotso, Inari, and Kittilä, and to hometowns in Northern Minnesota, Upper Michigan, and the Twin Cities.
For Upper Michigan native, mandolin player Ralph Tuttila, a highlight of the group’s tour was performing in Köyhäjoki, the home village of his grandmother. When he performs in his hometown, Ishpeming, on February 10 he brings the music full circle. Contact Ralph Tuttila for more info.

This year's St. Urho's Day celebration will be held in conjunction with an Eagle's Fish Fry. The meal is open to the public and runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Menu includes: choice of deep-fried or baked cod, or deep-fried shrimp; choice
of baked potato or french fries, salad bar, coffee and dessert. Price for dinner is $8 adults; $4 children 14 and under.

preserve Nicollet Island in its current aesthetic, natural and historic state.

FINN-DAY is a free event, open to the public, featuring Finnish arts and culture.
It will be held Sunday afternoon, June 4th from 1 - 4 PM at Minnesota Rocks
Stone-Carving Symposium site on the front lawn of St. Paul College
at the intersection of Summit and Kellogg.
Finn Hall will play and Kisarit dance in the outdoor studio. The public is invited to dance between Kisarit performances.
Spectators may also watch 14 master stone carvers from around Minnesota and the world create sculptures from Minnesota stone.
Sakari Peltola from Littoinen Finland is among them. His sculpture will be permanently installed in the new Salo Park in St. Anthony Village.
Other demonstrations and displays will be on the site to provide information
about the Finnish influence in Minnesota.

The annual Skandia festival includes a variety of cultural components, including music, dance, food and fun.
This performance by Finn Hall is part of a series of concerts events supported by Finlandia Foundation, a national organization, in conjunction with a grant awarded to Finn Hall in 2006 for performance, study and travel in Finland and the Midwest for their project entitled "Homecomings: A Circle of Music".
The Skandia festival is open to the public from 11am until 4pm. Ticket prices are $5 general admission and $3 for children and seniors.
